East and West Africa 1887-1900, one clasp, Brass River 1895 (G. French, Ord., H.M.S. Barrosa.), toned, nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 250-300 Petty Officer 1st Class George French, born Torquay, Devon, 1876; joined the Royal Navy as Boy Second Class, 1894; service included in H.M.S. Barrosa, 19.9.1894-3.9.1897 and in H.M.S. Berwick (Armoured Cruiser) 27.9.1913-1.12.1914, on the latter date French died of heart failure at sea, he is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
