x A Fine Indian Campaigns Group of Three to Lieutenant-Colonel A.H. Battye, Part of the Famous ´Family of Soldiers´, After A Distinguished Career With the Gurkhas, He Raised and Commanded the 14th (Reserve) Battalion Royal Scots During the Great War India General Service 1854-95, three clasps, Burma 1885-7, Chin-Lushai 1889-90, N.E. Frontier 1891 (Lieutt. A.H. Battye 2nd Bn. 3rd Gurkha Regt.), letter ´r´ of ´Regt´ officially corrected; India General Service 1895-1902, V.R., three clasps, Relief of Chitral 1895, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98, with usual private clasp carriage fitment to accommodate later clasps awards (Lieutt A.H. Battye. 2nd Bn. 4th Gurkhas.); China 1900, no clasp (Captain A.H. Battye. 4th Gurkha Rif.), impressed, light contact marks overall, therefore very fine or better, with an original calling card for ´Lt. Colonel & Mrs. Arthur H. Battye´ (3) Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Henry Battye, (1863-1943), son of Major-General Arthur Frederick Battye, Bombay Army; educated at Wellington College; commissioned Lieutenant (from the Militia) Cheshire Regiment, 1884; transferred Indian Staff Corps, 1886; Wing Officer 2nd Battalion 3rd Gurkha Regiment, 1887; served in the Burma Campaign, 1885-87, and was present in operations of the 1st Brigade, Shan States Column, including the advance to and occupation of Fort Stedman; one of five British Officers to take part in the Niti Expedition 1889; transferred 39th (Garrhwal) Bengal Infantry, 1892; served with the 2nd Battalion 4th Gurkha (Rifle) Regiment, from 1894; Captain 1895; served in the Reconnaissance of the Saran Sar and actions of 9.11.1897 and 11.11.1897 and was present at the capture of Sampagha and Arhinga Passes, in the operations against the Chamkanis and in the operations in the Bazar Valley, 25-30.12.1897; returned to the 2/3rd Gurkhas in 1899, and was attached to the 1st Battalion as part of the China Expeditionary Force, 1900; Major 12.11.1902; Lieutenant-Colonel 12.11.1910; served with 1/10th Gurkhas, 1909-13; retired 1913, but this was shortlived as he re-engaged for service with the outbreak of the Great War; he served as Officer Commanding (having formed the battalion himself at Weymouth) 14th (Reserve) Battalion Royal Scots, 7.11.1914-2.10.1916; served as a Specially Appointed Staff Officer in the French theatre of war, from 6.6.1917 (Silver War Badge no. 3342); he was entitled to a British War and Victory medal pair which is believed to still be retained by the family; retired 20.1.1919
