Tidman, A.B., R.N.); British War and Victory Medals (J.23141 E.W. Tidman. A.B. R.N.); Naval General Service 1915-62, G.V.R., one clasp, Iraq 1919-1920 (J.23141 E.W. Tidman. A.B. R.N.); 1939-1945 Star; Atlantic Star; War Medal; Naval Long Service & G.C., G.V.R., 1st ´Admiral´s bust´ type (J.23141 E.W. Tidman. A.B, H.M.S. Excellent), the G.V.R. awards mounted as worn, good fine or better, the Second World War awards extremely fine, together with the following documentation &c.: - Named condolence slip for the Second World War awards, together with card box of issue, named to Mrs. D.L. Tidman, Upper Holloway, London N.19 - The recipient´s parchment Certificate of Service in envelope - The recipient´s Gunnery History Sheet covering the period 1921-41 - A group photograph featuring the recipient(8) Estimate £ 1,800-2,200 J.23141 Leading Seaman Ernest William Tidman, born Islington, Middlesex, May 1897; enlisted in the Royal Navy as Boy 2nd Class, serving in H.M.S. Impregnable, 5.2.1913; Ordinary Seaman, H.M.S. Superb, 18.12.1914; Able Seaman, 4.10.1915; served during the Great War and present at the Battle of Jutland (paid 3s. 1d. from Jutland Battle Prize Bounty, Certificate of Service refers); transferred H.M.S. Espiegle, 11.3.1920, and served in Iraq between 1st July and 17th November 1920 as one of the Naval Party consisting of two officers and 34 ratings who were lent from H.M.S. Espiegle to River Craft Tug 1 (published transcription of roll refers); transferred H.M.S. Excellent, 19.7.1929; awarded Long Service & G.C. Medal, 28.7.1930; Leading Seaman, 29.6.1934; pensioned, 30.5.1937; re-enlisted for War Service during the Second World War; discharged, 28.1.1944; died, 21.12.1946, and is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
