x Punjab 1848-49, two clasps, Chilianwala, Goojerat (...sngn. F.J. Gully, 31st Bengal N.I.), contact marks, nearly very fine Estimate £ 600-700 Lieutenant Francis John Gully (1829-64), born Trevissick, St. Austell, Cornwall (changed his name to Slade-Gully in 1854); privately educated; Commissioned Ensign 31st Bengal Native Infantry, 1847; served with the Regiment in action at Sadodapore, Chilianwala and Goojerat (wounded at the latter London Gazette 19.4.1849); Lieutenant 1851, in his statement of service he gives the following, ´´joined the Goorkha force at Jampore in 1857 and was employed with that portion attached to General Banks´´ division in the advance from Jampore to Lucknow. Present at the actions Nasuntjiane, Chanra-amesressou and Sultanpore. Mentioned by General Banks in his despatch dated 25th January 1858, published in GOCC 26th Feb 1860, and also his despatch dated 12th March 1858, published in GOCC 30th April 1858. Present with the Goorkha force at the siege and capture of Lucknow 1858. Employed as Major of Brigade with the Field Force under Brigadier F. Wheler against the rebel leaders in Central India in March and April 1859. Mentioned in Brig Wheler´´s despatch of 27th March 1859, published in GOCC 20th May 1860, and served in the same capacity throughout the operations in Beclecund, October, November, December 1859´´; Captain Bengal Staff Corps, 1861; died of Fever, Calcutta, 12.11.1864.
