x Military General Service 1793-1814, three clasps, Egypt, Maida, Barrosa (J. Tucker, Capt. 27th Foot), toned, nearly extremely fine, last clasp unique to Regiment Estimate £ 1,400-1,800 Colonel John Montmorency Tucker, commissioned Ensign 28th Foot, 1797; Lieutenant 27th Foot 1800; Captain 1808; attached ´´Spanish Service´´ as a Colonel for Barrosa (WO100/2 refers); served with the 1st Battalion 27th Foot at Waterloo (wounded); exchanged as a Captain 8th Foot, 1816; it appears in later life that Tucker was somewhat of an author - the British Musuem Library has copies of three of his publications: Tales of the Camp and Cabinet (Published 1844 by T.C. Newby, 2 Vols); Life and Naval Memoirs of Lord Nelson, compiled from original documents (Published 1850 by Adams & Gee) and Life of the Duke of Wellington, compiled from despatches (Published 1880 by Blackwood); Tucker´´s death was listed in The Times, 24.5.1852, and it gave the following, ´´On the 22nd instant, Colonel John Montmorency Tucker, late of H.M. 27th Enniskillens, at the Beneficent Asylum founded by John Huggens Esq., Northfleet, Kent, aged 72, having highly signalized himself in all the Peninsula Wars, and also at Waterloo where he was seriously wounded.´´
