x Naval General Service 1793-1840, one clasp, Northumberland 22 May 1812 (Abraham Mogridge.), heavy abrasions to edge before and after naming details, nearly very fine Estimate £ 1,600-2,000 Abraham Mogridge served as Boy in H.M.S. Northumberland, who combined with H.M.S. Growler successfully destroyed the French ships Ariane, Andromaque and Mameluke off the Ile de Groix, Lorient, 22.5.1812. Abraham Mogridge born Crediton, Devon; joined the Royal Navy as Boy 3rd Class, July 1810, and was posted to H.M.S. Ethalion later that year; served as Boy 2nd Class in H.M.S. Northumberland from September 1810; later service included in H.M.S.´´s Puissant and Gladiator, the latter as an Ordinary Seaman. Provenance: Glendining July 1953
