Spanish Colonies Mariana Islands Stamps of the Philippines used in the Marianas 1896 King Alfonso XIII 2c. ultramarine pair and two singles (some faults), tied by manuscript cancellations to parcel front, endorsed "Muestras" (samples) addressed to Germany, "marianas" handstamp alongside; fine and a very scarce usage of this handstamp. Graus Certificate (1985). Photo Estimate £ 500-600 The Marianas were a source of medicinal herbs for Germany and this was one of the main factors behind Germany´´s decision to purchase the islands from Spain in 1899.
