x New South Wales Early Letters and Handstamps 1804 (15 Mar.) entire letter from Sir Charles Menzies, then a lieutenant in the Marines aboard the transport ship Calcutta, from Sydney to London, rated "10" and showing oval-framed "ship letter/Crown/portsmouth" (S9), arrival c.d.s. (25.7) on reverse; stains/soiling and with filing creases (one of which crosses the Ship Letter h.s.) though an interesting letter in which he informs his bankers that he has been appointed Lt. Governor of the Hunter River Settlement at an annual salary of £280. An early letter Estimate £ 150-200
