Seventeenth Century Token, Metropolitan Middlesex, Ratcliff, Will. Archer, Halfpenny, [at the coffee hovse], obv. hand pouring coffee from pot to cup (BW. London 2336), basically good fine but some of the legend unclear; struck over a token of Bartholomew Close, City of London. The host token is probably as the only known example in original condition, published by Robert Thompson in BNJ 2008, pp. 258-9, no. 5: obv. Turk´s head, rev. in/great st/bartho/mewes/cloase/1664, the issuer probably Robert Kempe, coffee-house keeper, cf. BW London 129 and Norweb, part vii, 6521 Estimate £ 100-130 The reverse of the host token appears to be an inscription in six lines: -n|...st|b[art]hol|m[ew--]:cloa[se]|1664
