Aethelstan (924-939), Penny, 1.42g, HT1, North Eastern, Gota, cross pattée within inner circle, +aedelstan rex, ae ligate, rev. three small crosses dividing gota/moinet, trefoil above, inverted trefoil below (EMC 2004.0191- this coin; BNJ 2005, Coin Register, no. 166- this coin; cf. SCBI 34/217-219; N.668b; S.1089), hairline crack with pin hole, as found surfaces, nearly very fine, scarce Estimate £ 250-350 Found 2005, Eyke, Suffolk Aethelstan HT1 NE pennies are scruffy coins in the tradition of the late St Eadmund memorial Coinage of East Anglia/ Danish Eastern Mercia. Overall these coins are not that common with each Sylloge of this period only having only a few examples. This example is notable reading moinet rather than, mone found on other surviving examples of Gota´´s coins. Gota is a fairly prolific moneyer coining for Eadmund as well as Aethelstan.
