Mauritius 1848-59 "post paid" Issue Early Intermediate Impression 1d. red, [11], with large margins nearly all round, neatly cancelled "1" on 1856 (25 Mar.) soldier´s envelope from a Corporal (No. 1692) in the 5th. Fusiliers to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and marked "P.D.", showing boxed "Mahébourg" d.s. (25.3), London "2" charge h.s. and, on reverse, London (25.5) and Staplehurst (21.5) c.d.s.; the soldier´s name and a large part of the address erased, and the envelope with a vertical crease well clear of the adhesive. An exceptionally rare soldier´s privilege rate franking, being the finest of the three recorded examples bearing the classic issues.
