Cape of Good Hope, Boer War 1899 (15 Oct.) "O.H.M.S." envelope from an Officer in the North Lancs. Regiment at Kimberley to The Chief Paymaster at Cape Town, posted just three days after the siege began and held at Kimberley until after the siege ended three months later, showing fine Kimberley squared-circle d.s. alongside superb "army pay office,/cape town./23 feb. 1900" cachet in blue and with Cape Town arrival c.d.s. for the same date on reverse; some light fox marks though very scarce with few civilian covers known posted during the siege and with this cover thought to be the first soldiers cover recorded. Also 1902 real photo card from Kimberley to France franked at 2 1/2d. with Kimberley censor cachet. Photo Estimate £ 700-800 provenance: Kenneth Griffith, 2006
