x Great Britain Postal History 1840 Uniform Penny Postage 1840 (10 Jan.) unpaid wrapper to the Bishop of Gloucester and Bristol from the Bishop of Exeter (wax seal on reverse) bearing manuscript "2" in black, the reverse with a good strike of open top Torquay c.d.s. Used on the first day of the Uniform Penny Post and on the day following the last day of free franking privilege for the Lord Bishops (though the letter was written on the 9th).
