Royal Siamese Treasury note part issued, 400 ticals, ND (1892) purple, pale blue & pale orange, royal arms at centre (Rama V) in ornate circular design, ornate floral scroll work in field, value at each corner, text in margins in Thai, Chinese, Indian and English, reverse pale pink-brown & pale blue, Royal arms at centre, value at each corner in 1892 the Thai Government entered into negotiations with a well known printer, Giesecke & Devrient, with regard to an issue of Treasury notes. The Giesecke product, as can be seen by this example, is second to none; The proposed Treasury issue in progressively larger sizes is spectacular both in design and in colour. Unfortunately the issue of Government notes did not begin in Thailand until 1902, when a less elaborately printed series from 1 to 1000 ticals was ordered from Thomas de la Rue. Thus these spectacular German printed notes exist today only as specimens. Collectors should note that on the colour sample specimens provided by Giesecke, of which the present note is one, the serial numbers are samples and tend to be the same on each note of each denomination. Accordingly, the 400 Tical illustrated as P.7 has the same serial number as the present note, but it is not the same piece. Only a few of these lovely notes are known in private hands. Accordingly this note is certain to attract considerable attention (P7 for type) small ink letter E low left, a truly spectacular Giesecke & Derrient engraving, extremely fine and of the highest rarity Estimate HK$ 240,000-320,000
