Great Britain Postal History Soldiers Letters 1826 (29 June) entire letter "From Thomas Steele Private 11th. Light Dragoons" at Maidstone Barracks to his sister at Westmoreland, signed by the Commanding Officer and showing manuscript "P1" in red ink and Paid d.s. in red, Maidstone mileage handstamp on reverse, a prophetic letter requesting her to send him a guinea, on his departure for India "I am sure it will be the last that I shall ever look for from your kind and good hands towards me"; the letter accompanied by an 1828 (Dec.) OHMS War Office letter informing his mother, after an enquiry into his whereabouts, that he has died at Cawnpore in March 1827 and that he had £1 due to him at the time of his death Estimate £ 120-150
