Great Britain Postal History Soldiers Letters 1745-1875, twenty-five entires or envelopes from England, including 1745 (Jacobite Rebellion), long letter from London to Ireland endorsed "Free Wm. Dowles" and with Bishop mak on reverse; 1796 (March) entire from Woolwich to Glasgow, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and endorsed "Soldiers Letter"; 1804 (Oct.) entire with red (Crown) "To be delivered Free" handstamp; 1807 (Oct.) entire from Hastings to Bletchington Sussex by Regimental letter carriers in three stages, signed by N.C.O.´s who each state where they had taken the letter over; 1809 (Nov.) printed Northumberland Regiment of Militia enrolement certificate, addressed to Durham and signed by the commanding officer; 1811 entire t0 Dornach with fine "Warrington 188 mileage marking; 1829 entire to York with horseshoe "beverley" on reverse; 1814 entire to London, the senders rank not stated and therefore with "NOT ACCORDING TO THE ACT" handstamp on reverse and charged at the full civilian rate, 1820 large part entire from Brighton to Ireland with Royal Veteran Battalion abbreviated to R.V.B. and therefore with "Not According To The Act" handstamp on the reverse; 1837 entire letter "From Wm. Whittingham Corpl. Scotts Fusilier Guard", countersigned by himself but written by his wife and therefore an abuse of the privilege; 1857 entire franked 1d. "Stars" from Plymouth to Gibraltar, endorsed by the Commanding Officer of the 67th. Regiment; 1850 envelope to Toronto, with enclosure, franked 1d. Stars From Musician R. Morgan, Coldstream Gds", contrary to regulations not being countersigned; 1875 mourning envelope franked 1858 1d., addressed to Otago, etc., mixed condition but chiefly fine and many accompanied by interesting transcripts or notes.
