Transvaal 1878 (22 Oct.) envelope "From 1293 Pte. W. Brown J Company 1/13 P A L I" at Lydenburg to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and bearing 1877 (Dec.) "v.r./Transvaal" (S.G. Type 6) imperforate 1d. red on orange cancelled with superb target "13", showing Lydenburg (22.10) and Cape Town (8.11) c.d.s. and "1d" charge h.s., London c.d.s. (5.12) on reverse; the envelope with part flap missing though a rare franking. R.P.S. Certificate (1991). Photo Estimate £ 1,500-2,000 Note: 1st. Battalion H.M. 13th. Regiment was at this time on active service against Sekukuni who was in open revolt By a Postal Convention of 19th. January 1877, all mail to the U.K. forwarded through Cape Town must have Ocean Postage paid in Cape Colonial stamps. Not being prepaid with a Cape postage stamp, the recipient was charged the Cape 1d. due
