Nyasaland 1896 (12 June) 4d. registered envelope, uprated with 1895 1d. black, from Bugler Sewa Singh of the Sikh Volunteer Contingent at Zomba to India, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and showing despatch double-ring d.s., oval-framed h.s. containing registration number and, on reverse, Chinde (29.6), Sea Post Office (3.8) and Simla (11.8) c.d.s. An extremely rare item of registered mail sent by a soldier from this action against slave hunters. Photo Estimate £ 1,000-1,200 Note: British Central Africa became a Crown Colony in 1894. War by Arab slave hunters against the white population existed and continued until 1897. Indian Army Sikh Volunteers, with the approval of the British Government, took temporary service under the local authority of the British Central Africa Company
