India 1821 (20 Dec.) entire letter "From J Saunders L Corpl, H.M. 89th. Regt." from Qilon to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and rated "1/8" (deleted) and "2/2", showing "india letter/deal" (In. 1) and, on reverse, a superb strike of the "madras/soldiers.letter/paid/1d" unframed d.s. in red alongside London transit c.d.s. (4.7); a little wear and strengthening at folds though shows well when opened out. Attractive and the finest of the three recorded examples of the Madras handstamp. Photo Estimate £ 800-1,000
