Burma 1887 (5 Mar.) Soldier´s and Seamen´s 9p. envelope from "No 6469 Private A R Mc.Gregor 1st. B.B.B, Upper Burmah" at Salin to England, countersigned by the Commanding Officer and cancelled with Rangoon c.d.s. (10.5) in transit, the reverse with Salin, Rangoon, Bombay and Ipswich c.d.s.; vertical fold at centre through the Salin c.d.s. though an unusual cover from this small remote post office. Photo Estimate £ 200-250 Note: Salin, 10 miles from the banks of the Irraawaddy river, was an old walled town. The area was under the influence of the rebel leader Ottama whose objective was to burn down the interior of the town. Ottama failed and was captured on 20 July 1889 The post office at Salin first appears as a Civil Post Office in April 1887
