Cape of Good Hope Covers and Cancellations 1867-1914 collection entitled "The Philatelic Story of the Ocean Post Offices Carried on the Royal Mail Ships of the Union Line and the Castle Line", neatly mounted and written-up on 78 pages in two albums with an additional 47 covers and cards written-up on pages, the collection commences with seven 1867-77 covers from Cape Town to England carried during various contract periods of the Union Line and franked at 4d., 6d. or 1/-, the collection then continues with a range of postcards/covers cancelled with "cape colony/ocean post office" small lettering c.d.s. (62, various codes, one on 1900 envelope to England, franked at 1d. and charged 2d. Postage Due on arrival) and "cape colony/ocean post office" large lettering c.d.s. (14, one an advertising letter card for the Union-Castle Line with Southampton Ship Letter c.d.s. struck on arrival), "union of south africa/ocean p.o." small and large (16) double-ring d.s. with various code numbers, "united kingdom & south africa sea p.o." double-ring d.s. (7 with various codes, one registered), one with "the union- castle mail steamship co. ld./capetown/agency" oval d.s. and a couple with Alfred Docks c.d.s., many of the cards showing pictures of the various vessels that were employed on the line; fair to fine strikes of the c.d.s. and a most attractive assembly.
