Tasmania Early Letters and Handstamps 1848 (27 Jan.) entire letter from Launceston "p Wellington Via Hobart" to London, rated "8" and showing despatch c.d.s., Hobart segmented circle "paid" d.s., the latter crossed by London "ship-letter" h.s. in black, a scarce example of cross-country mail sent overseas, and 1851 (1 Dec.) entire letter from Launceston "via Melbourne" to London, rated "3d" (deleted) and "8", apparently carried privately as far as Geelong and placed in the post there, showing framed "paid at/geelong" h.s. on face partially over-cancelled with transit c.d.s. and with Geelong oval d.s. on reverse, upon arrival redirected to Norfolk with the new address written on the reverse which bears 1841 1d. applied over the Geelong d.s.; portion around seal torn away, otherwise fine and unusual Estimate £ 180-200 provenance: Michael Blake, 2001
