Edward VI, second period, 1549-1550, Tower, Shilling, 4.31g, mdl m.m. pheon/martlet, bust 4, edward etc, rev. oval garnished shield dividing er (N.1919/1; S.2466), small flan edge split at 5 o´clock, usual weakness, an extremely rare mintmark mule, good fine Estimate £ 150-200 With old dealers ticket. The reverse mintmark is not completely clear but must be a martlet as it´´s feet are clearly visible and the shape is that of a martlet rather than a swan. This mintmark variant was not listed by Raymond Carlyon- Britton in SNC in April 1950 (var 147a- pheon/swan, but not pheon/martlet) and this combination may be known from only a very few examples.
