Bronze plaquette, celebrating 25 years of friendship with Carl Duisberg, c.1909, 52mm. x 70mm. by Hans Frei, signed, donated to Carl Duisberg by Henry T. von Bottinger, in original red leather presentation case, a handsome celebratory piece associated with a notable German industrial chemist, a few light scuffs on case, as struck Estimate £ 100-150 Carl Duisberg (1861- 1935), studied chemistry at Gottingen and Jena, joined Farben Fabriken Bayer in 1883 becoming managing director 1912-1925. Duisberg is regarded as one of the leading figures in the development of I .G. Farbenindustrie AG, the Bayer Group and the German health care and chemical industries. On his death the London Times described him as a man who "may be regarded as the greatest industrialist the world has ever seen." Hans Frei (1868-1947) was a Swiss medalist, goldsmith and sculptor. After working in Vienna, Paris and Germany, he settled in Basle and built an international reputation producing medals and plaques many commemorating jubilees and foundations.
