Entry of Princess Alexandra of Denmark into the City of London, 1863, a fine boxed set of two bronze medals by J.S. and A.B. Wyon, 77 mm., alexandra , head left, lovelock on shoulder, rev. welcome alexandra, the Princess greeted by The City, mar 1983 and city arms in exergue (BHM 2783; E.1561; W.9), extremely fine, a scarce medal, only 350 struck, and very rare as a boxed set (2) Estimate £ 250-300 The medals are displayed in a red leather case, the lid gilt blocked with the shield of the City of London above ´´In Commemoration of the Public Entry into the City of London of H.R.H. The Princess Alexandra of Denmark on the occasion of her approaching marriage with H.R.H. The Prince of Wales 7th March 1863, The Rt. Hon. W.A. Rose M.P. Lord Mayor, Chairman of Committee, James Anderton Esq. Deputy Chairman.´´ The allegorical scene on the reverse is described on the inside lid of the box ´´Explanation of Reverse The Princess Alexandra, led by the Prince of Wales & attended by Hymen, is welcomed by the City of London. The City is accompanied by Peace and Plenty, the latter carrying the diamond necklace & earrings which the City offers to the Princess. In the background is the triumphal arch, erected by the Corporation at London Bridge, where the Princess entered the City.´´ J.S. & A.B. Wyon, 287 Regent St. W.´´
