Ciro Ferri, 1680, cast bronze medal by Massililiano Soldani, draped bust right, below AETATIS 46. 1680, rev. allegories of Architecture and Painting, signed in exergue M. SOLDANVS F., 68mm. (Bargello inv. 7665; Johnson 140, fig.15; VT.15), small casting flaw to edge at upper right but an attractive medal and a superbly detailed cast, nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 400-600 Ciro Ferri was a painter and an architect who studied under Pietro da Cortona. He worked in Florence between 1659 and 1665 before settling in Rome. In 1673 Cosimo de´Medici appointed him drawing master at the Accademia Fiorentina. Ferri was one of the young Soldani´s masters and this medal, like several of the medallist´s earliest works, may have been made as a tribute to his sitter (Avery 1987, pp.13-14).
