Belle, half-length bust of Picard left, wearing a decorated and tasselled cloak, seated at a desk, sealing a document, rev. heraldic shield with large, elaborate crest, date 1656, 79mm., very fine, rare Estimate £ 200-300 This medal has an elaborate obverse design in high relief, and it casting would have presented various technical difficulties. The medal appears to be unpublished, but Forrer records a smaller size medal by Josias Belle of Pierre de Maridat.
