(Patricius Venetus), rev. a fortress with a tall tree in the background, 61mm. (Armand III, 215d; Hill, Corpus, 488; Kress 162), a very fine early cast taken from a pierced original, attractive medium brown patina, rare Estimate £ 200-300 The Montagnacco brothers Jacopo (d.1513) and Sebastiano (d.1540) restored the Castello Cassacco, as depicted on the reverse, in 1480. The medal is thought to have been made in the early 1530s when Sebastiano´s son Girolamo was in Venice. He may have commissioned it himself from Maffeo Olivieri as a tribute to his father. Hill records three examples of this medal: Berlin, Milan (´a good after cast´) and the Gustav Dreyfus collection (now in the Kress collection, Washington).
