Master of Coriolanus (North Italian, c.1500), Coriolanus in Battle before the walls of Rome, silver-gilt plaquette, 43.8mm. x 37mm. (Kress 88; Milinier 634; Ricci ii, p.118, no.148), borders trimmed, gilding rubbed, very fine Estimate £ 400-600 One of a group of small plaquettes by a North Italian artist active c.1500, believed to be a Paduan artist working in the manner of Moderno and called ´´Master of Corolianus´´ by Ricci. This scene forms one side of the silver-gilt inkstand in the Victoria and Albert Museum which led to the identification of the all four scenes. There is a silver-gilt example of this plaquette in the Morgenroth collection.
