East and West Africa 1887-1900, one clasp, Gambia 1894 (A. Francis, A.B., H.M.S. Raleigh), very fine Estimate £ 250-300 Petty Officer Arthur Edward Francis, born Plymouth, 1874; joined the Royal Navy as Boy 2nd Class, 1890; served in H.M.S. Raleigh, 4.10.1891-1.2.1895; advanced Petty Officer 1896; drowned in a boating accident in Bantry Bay, 28.5.1897, his body was recovered three weeks later and buried in Bantry Churchyard.
