[sic] Egerton. 1st Hamp: Regt), good very fine Estimate £ 200-250 3661 Cororal James Egerton, born Basingstoke; enlisted Winchester, 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment 1891; discharged 18.12.1905; re-enlisted as 5300 Private James Egerton, Hampshire Regiment 23.10.1914 ; Corporal 23.10.1914; Sergeant 14.11.1914; reported missing by his unit 7.12.1915 Kajali, Macedonia; on 6.1.1916 his Warrant Officer reported him as a Prisoner of War in Bulgaria according to his statement made to a medical officer whilst in captivity, several of his teeth were "knocked out by the butt of a Hun rifle" along with a scalp wounds by the same blow; discharged 26.9.1917.
