The Fine Two Clasp 1949 ´Yangtze Incident´ N.G.S. to Ordinary Seaman G.A. Wright, H.M.S. Amethyst, Who Took Part in the Daring Escape to Rejoin the Fleet Naval General Service 1915-62, G.VI.R., two clasps, Yangtze 1949, Malaya (D/SSX. 818530 G.A. Wright. Ord. Smn. R.N.), nearly extremely fine, with a photographic image and five copied newspaper cuttings relating to the recipient Estimate £ 1,600-1,800 D/SSX 818530 Ordinary Seaman Gordon C. Wright, born Coventry, Warwickshire, 28.4.1929; enlisted in the Royal Navy 1946; transferred to H.M.S. Amethyst, September 1948; served in Amethyst during the ´´Yangtze Incident´´, 20.4-31.7.1949; he narrowly escaped serious injury when a shell exploded as he was helping a wounded comrade during the initial Chinese bombardment (Birmingham Mail article, November 1949 refers); present throughout the famous dash down the Yangtze River on the night of the 30th-31st July ("Have rejoined the Fleet, no damage or casualties, God Save the King"); later took part in the celebrations when the ship returned home, and sat on Table 2 at the Celebratory Dinner at the Dorchester Hotel, 16.11.1949.
