A Great War Group of Three to Private W. Greenhalgh, Royal Scots Fusiliers, Killed in Action, 27.2.1916 1914 Star (6985 Pte. W. Greenhalgh. 2/R. SC:Fus.); British War and Victory Medals (6986 Pte. W. Greenhalgh. R.S.Fus.), good very fine (3) Estimate £ 140-180 6985 Private William Greenhalgh, born Manchester; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers on the Western Front from 6.10.1914; he later transferred to the 7th Battalion and whilst with them was killed in action 27.2.1916; the battalion was deployed around the Halluch Road area, in February 1916, with the Battalion War Diary giving, ´´25th February - We exploded a defensive mine and the crater was occupied... 26th February - in trenches... 27th February - The Germans sprang a mine about 5.30pm, we had 20 casualties, no attack was made, 50 yards of parapet was blown in, behind which a defensive trench was dug´´; Greenhalgh is buried in Noeux-Les-Mines Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
