Megginson. 2/York:R.), some details double-struck; British War and Victory Medals (3.7696 Pte. J. Megginson. York. R.), light contact marks to 1st, otherwise good very fine or better (3) Estimate £ 160-200 7696 Private John Megginson, born Scarborough; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment on the Western Front from 14.11.1914; he was killed in action 28.2.1915; the Battalion War Diary entry for the latter date gives, ´´28th Feb the enemy shelled our redoubt and reserve shelled very heavily, 5 men were killed and 9 men wounded´´; Megginson is buried in the Rue-David Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, Pas de Calais.
