A Great War ´1914 Casualty´ Group of Three to Guardsman A. Doody, Scots Guards 1914 Star, with Bar (7338 Pte. A. Doody. S. Gds.); British War and Victory Medals (7338 Pte. A. Doody. S. Gds.), good very fine or better (3) Estimate £ 200-240 7338 Guardsman Albert Doody, born Newport, Salop; served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion Scots Guards on the Western Front from 7.10.1914; he was killed in action between 22nd October - 7th November 1914 (exact date of death not established, but given for between that period); throughout October the Scots Guards were involved in fierce fighting at Polygon Wood and Gheluvelt, with a particularly hard fought action at Kruiseecke on the 25th where they held the enemy with only a combined force of one platoon and one company; during the dates given for Doody´´s death the 2nd Battalion suffered 138 other ranks killed, the majority of which were for the actions undertaken in October; he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
