Manner of Moderno (late 15th century) Hercules and Antaeus, rectangular bronze plaquette, 99mm. x 78.4mm., a very fine contemporary cast, an attractive example with light brown patina, pierced at top, two areas of solder and number 19 scratched lightly on reverse Hercules, seen from behind, his head in profile to the left, stands firmly on the ground and lifts the struggling Antaeus, crushing him in his arms. To the left the lion´s skin, a bow and quiver hang from a tree stump A companion piece to the preceding lot. Again the influence of Pollaiuolo can be seen, with similarities to his small panel in the Uffizi, Florence. No antique source has been identified.
