Leone Leoni (1509-1590) reverse of the medal of Ippolita Gonzaga, uniface bronze medal, 68mm., an attractive old cast, a crack from the edge at 1 o´clock to Ippolita´s face, warm light brown patina, slightly incuse on reverse Diana, draped, holding a large hunting horn to her lips with her left hand and holding a large arrow in her right, walking to right through a wooded landscape, three hunting dogs at her feet, the moon and stars above, behind her Pluto, carrying a struggling Prosepina, accompanied by Cerberus, stands in an arched doorway, the entrance to the underworld, PAR VBIQ POTESTAS The reverse of the medal of Ippolita Gonzaga (1535-1563), daughter of Ferrante Gonzaga, wife of Fabrizio Colonna from 1549 until his death in 1551, and of Antonio Carraffa, Duke of Mondragone from 1554.
