Andrea Guacialotti (1435-1495) Pope Sixtus IV, bronze medal, 67.5mm., a late cast, rich brown patina, number in white paint on reverse Obverse: bust of Sixtus IV in profile to left, wearing triregno and piviale, +SIXTVS · PP IIII · - VRBIS · RENOVATOR Reverse: an emperor standing at left, holding winged caduceus in left hand and clasping with his right the hand of a draped female figure (Concordia, or Ecclesia) who stands at right holding a cornucopia in her left hand, CONCOR ET AMATO (R) - PAC I - PON · MAX · PPP·, in exergue ·ECCLESIA Francesco della Rovere (1414, Pope 1471-1484), had been behind the attempt to overthrow the Medici in the so-called Pazzi Conspiracy of 1478 which resulted in war between the Papacy, supported by Naples, and Florence, This medal might celebrate the truce that was declared in December 1480.
