                        Cristoforo Caradosso Foppa (active 1475-1427)  Niccolò Orsini, bronze medal, 41.5mm., an old cast, light brown patina    Obverse: bare-headed bust to left, bald, and wearing plain plate-armour over a gorget of mail, NIC VRS PET ET NOL COMES SANTE ROM ECCLE ARMOR CAP    Reverse: Orsini on horseback walking right, holding baton, foot soldiers walking beside him, NIC VRS PETILIANI ET NOLAS COMES REIP FLOR CAP    Niccolò Orsini (1442-1510), commanded the Papal troops from 1482. The other titles on this medal date the medal to after 1485, the year he became count of Pitigliano and Nola, and from July the same year he commanded the troops of Florence. In 1495 he also acquired the title of Gubernator Generalis of the Venetian army and in that year the medal was re-issued with an altered legend.
