China Chinese Imperial Post Postmarks dollar chops - paoting: 1901 (22 Mar.) Imperial Post Office memorandum bearing fine strikes of Paoting Dollar chop (6), rectangular handstamp with lower name of office (2), no demand, so pay and two small handstamps, the front with boxed and bilingual registered and bilingual tax handstamp (2); folding creases and small paper split. A spectacular souvenir of this post office. Major Richard Pratt collection. Photo Estimate HK$ 10,000-12,000 It is thought that these were struck as a result of the postal circular issued in summer 1901 requestig individual Post Offices to forward anything of an archival nature. This was to help reconstruct the central archive which was destroyed when the Inspecorate General building in Peking was burnt to the ground during the Boxer troubles
