Auction: 8002 - Stamps of Hong Kong & China
Lot: 768

China 1897 Revenue Surcharges Unsurcharged 3c. red, perf.13·7 to 14, in a left margin block of six [21-22/41-42] with full original gum; there is a thin and paper adherences in the margin, a small thin on lower left stamp and a vertical crease through the right column. An outstanding and rare multiple, the stamps being unmounted mint and in a fresh, vibrant colour. Photo Estimate HK$ 1,500,000-2,000,000 The centring of this block is very similar to the block of eight which was in the Sir Percival David collection [59-60/89-90] (illustrated in Spink November 2002 catalogue) as well as the perf.15 examples, 1 to 7, illustrated in the Revenue Surcharges China 1897. It is conceivable that these originated from the same sheet (the perforations are very irregular across these sheets, so it is possible for different perforations to be found on the same sheet).
