International Rate 1897 (24 May) Archibald Little envelope to Leeds, bearing 1/2c. on 3ca. olive-yellow (4), with 4c. on 4ca. rose-pink cancelled by fine strikes of the "customs/chungking" second type dated oval in blue with French Chine 25c. alongside, tied by "shang-hai/chine" c.d.s. (10.6), the reverse with Shanghai Dollar chop overstruck by Leeds arrival (19.7); light vertical crease and light soiling. A delightful and appealing Customs dater used on the new currency stamps before the introduction of the Dollar dater in Chungking. Photo
