China 1894 Dowagers 3 Candareens - Winter Courier Service 1896 printed paper wrapper of La Mode Pratique bearing France Peace and Commerce 15c. (tripe rate) tied by indistinct Paris c.d.s., Dowager 1ca. (4) and 6ca. tied by "customs/shanghai c.d.s. in blue, one 1c. has had a corner removed then crossed through by blue crayon (apparently applied in error, a failed attempt at removal before being crossed through) and "i.g. of customs/peking" (5.1) arrival c.d.s. It is believed that printed matter was charged at 3ca. per 1/4oz. (rather than 2ca.) when carried on the Winter Courier Service. A charming and important cover. Signed by Holcolmbe.
