Hong Kong Treaty Ports Foochow 1874 (6 July) "On Her Majesty´s Service" envelope registered to a firm of coachbuilders in London bearing 30c. mauve (with wing margin) and 8c. orange (in lower corner) cancelled by "B62" and showing a superb strike of the "registered/foochow" dated oval in blue with manuscript "43", Hong Kong and London registered ovals alongside; the reverse with Foochowfoo despatch c.d.s. (in blue), Hong Kong and registered c.d.s. The 30c. paying the postage and 8c. for the registration fee. Some peripheral creasing from the original contents and light even toning.
An outstanding cover of the greatest importance, not only is this the only recorded example of the Foochow registered oval but is the only Hong Kong or Treaty Port example struck in blue (using the same inkpad as the despatch c.d.s.) and is an exhibition item of the highest calibre. Photo
