Great Britain Queen Elizabeth II Booklets 1891 (2 May), ´The Stamp Distribution Syndicate Ltd.´ booklet with red cloth cover inscribed "Memoranda." and made up of sixty-four pages, with various advertising, the back cover with small diagonal slit which includes a replacement 1881 1d. lilac without the "S.D.S." perfin stamp and no outer envelope. Extremely rare in such excellent condition. S. G. cat. £8,500 (for complete booklet). Photo Estimate £ 1,000-2,000 Various trials as early as 1880 wrere conducted by the Inland Revenue for distribution of stamps in booklets. The Stamp Distribution Syndicate, Ltd. were granted permission by the Postmaster General to issue stamp booklets from vending machines. Post Office records indicate that some 160,000 booklets were sold between 2nd May and 6th August 1891. However due to numerous technical difficulties the Postmaster General decided to withdraw their permission in May 1892.
