† Great Britain Other Illustrated Envelopes 1851 (c.), a set of eleven unused envelopes (all of the same make and size), each with an oval recess printed vignette depicting a different humourous seaside scene including an overweight man capsizing a rowing boat entitled "Too Much Ballast"; a sleeping man getting a soaking entitled "Taking A Nap and Forgetting The Tide"; a man being attacked by a large crustacean entitled "The Crab´s Revenge", etc.; a very fresh, fine and most appealing assembly. These envelopes, sold at seaside resorts, were the equivalent of the 20th century ´saucy´ postcards such as those published by Donald MacGill. Photo
