Jamaica 1921 (April) Abolition of Slavery Script 6d. orange-red and blue-green, an upper left corner example without "specimen" overprint, large part original gum; some light vertical gum (?) creasing at centre, otherwise fine. A great rarity and the only corner example in private hands. Cat. £27,000. Photo Estimate £ 14,000-16,000 Note: It was considered politically inexpedient to have the suggested "Abolition of Slavery" stamps issued and when the first two printings reached Jamaica on 11 May 1921 they were destroyed. The Crown Agents were also instructed to destroy the unissued supply held by them. A third printing reached Jamaica in October 1921 and was also destroyed except for two blocks of four on Script paper. One corner block of four resides in the Royal collection. The other was broken up and now resides in private collections
