Cnut, Penny, 0.89g, Quatrefoil type, Thetford, Tidred, crowned bust left within quatrefoil, privy mark of four pellets behind, +cnvtrexango, rev. voided long cross over quatrefoil, +ti.dredondio, privy mark of a small cross of four wedges in first and third quarters of quatrefoil (N. 781; S.1157), reverse off centre with privy marks weakly struck, very fine, very rare possibly unique for this moneyer Estimate £ 300-400 Tidred was a plentiful moneyer for Thetford for the Pointed Helmet issue of Cnut, but is not known for either of his Quatrefoil or Short Cross issues. The small flan, light weight and style all indicate this coin dates from late in the Quatrefoil issue c.1022-23. Privy marks are not uncommon on Quatrefoil pennies, however the two reverse crosses are most unusual.
