Pantala, For the Detection and Suppression of Enemy Artillery and Mortar Batteries at Bannino Russia, Soviet Union, Order of Glory, Second Class, 3rd type breast Badge, thick flan with riband suspension, 46mm, silver, silver-gilt, and enamel, reverse officially numbered ´23690´, gilding rubbed, contact marks to points of star, nearly very fine, with copied service papers confirming the numbered award Estimate £ 50-60 The Citation, dated 30.3.1945, states: ´On the 17th March 1945, the scout Pantala was in an infantry battle group which discovered and fought the German tanks, supported by enemy infantry, which tried to attack the village of Bannino, but was thrown back by artillery fire. Scout Pantala then detected two artillery batteries and a mortar battery which were then suppressed by our artillery.´ Junior Sergeant Maksim Nazarovich Pantala, born Ukraine, 1908; served on the Western Front, 27.7.1941-31.3.1943; on the Bryansky Front, 1.4-19.10.1943; on the Belorussian Front from 20.10.1943; slightly wounded at Smolensk, 25.8.1941. Junior Sergeant Pantala was previously awarded the Order of Glory Third Class (a pre-requisite for the award of the Order of Glory Second Class), 5.12.1943. He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star, 3.2.1944.
