A Most Interesting ´Defence of Leningrad´ 2nd Class Order of the Patriotic War to Captain of Engineers V.I. Bogomolov, Who Designed and Built the City´s Radar Defence System Russia, Soviet Union, Order of the Patriotic War, Second Class, 2nd type breast Badge, with Screwback suspension, 48mm x 43mm, gold, silver, and enamel, reverse officially numbered ´70090´, nearly extremely fine, with copied service papers featuring a photograph of the recipient confirming the numbered award Estimate £ 60-80 The Citation, dated 4.4.1944, states: ´Captain of Engineers Comrade Bogomolov performed exceptionally hard and technically complicated work in maintaining the equipment of REDUT No. 1 in combat-ready status. Using the experience of the latest types of radar detection sets, persistently studying it, and making many technical calculations, Comrade Bogomolov transformed the set beyond recognition. From a prototype used for basic research on problems of radar detection in the Leningrad Institute of Physical Technology, a set only able to operate for a limited number of hours a day, Comrade Bogomolov made it state-of-the-art by adding several whole auxiliary units. With the hand-over of a great many of the sets to be serviced by the 2nd GLIAK, the entire burden of alerting aerial defence for the city of Lenin lay on site No. 1, and thanks to the exceptionally productive work of Comrade Bogomolov the crew and equipment of REDUT No. 1 coped with their task. As a Communist, Comrade Bogomolov found the time, despite his heavy work load, to train the needed cadre personnel, patiently and persistently teaching and indoctrinating them. Comrade Bogomolov won great authority among the men of the Battalion.´ Captain of Engineers Vasiliy Ivanovich Bogomolov, born Vol´skiy, Saratov, 1905; educated at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute; served on the Leningrad Front, August 1941-1945, as Chief of Communications, 690th Ind.
